Over 40s Division 2 – Grand Final Recap
Broadbeach Robina’s Over 40s Division 2 side were crowned premiers in style, storming to a nine wicket win over Runaway Bay to seal the flag.
Runaway Bay batted first and were bundled out for just 115 in 26.2 overs, undone by a disciplined and relentless Broady bowling attack.
Chris Dickson was the pick of the bowlers with a superb 4/22 from seven overs, including three maidens, while Paul Azzopardi backed him up beautifully with 3/26. Andrew Sandilands (2/23) and Jamie Miller (1/38) chipped in with important wickets, and the fielders were immaculate.
David Griffith led the way with four catches, superbly supported by Scott Robson (2 catches), as the Cats made life miserable for the Runaway Bay batters. Greg Bird top scored for the opposition with a battling 37.
Chasing 116 for the premiership, Broadbeach barely raised a sweat. Sunny Modi set the tone with a classy 50 retired not out from just 49 balls, striking nine boundaries as he took the attack to the Runaway Bay bowlers.
David Griffith then capped a superb all round day with an unbeaten 50 off 43 balls, laced with eight fours, to guide the team home. Daniel Scully finished 6 not out, with Travis Harker (1/20) the only bowler to trouble the Cats.
Broady reached the target at 1/117 in just 17.3 overs, losing only the wicket of Dylan Petersen along the way.
It was a complete team performance from start to finish, and a fitting way to be crowned Division 2 Premiers. Special mention to David Griffith, whose four catches and match-winning half-century made him the standout of a memorable Grand Final.
