Over 40s Division 1 – Grand Final Recap
Broadbeach Robina saved one of their best performances of the season for the big stage, storming to a dominant 103-run Grand Final victory over Southport Labrador.
Batting first, the Cats piled on an imposing 4/246 from 40 overs in a clinical display of power and patience. The top order all fired, with Steven Baker (50 retired not out), Shane Davis (50 retired not out), and Shamus Robertson (50 retired not out) each reaching half-centuries. They were well supported by Don Richards (47), while late contributions from John Fish (15)* and Darren Santer (6)* pushed the total to a commanding score.
In reply, Southport Labrador never found their rhythm, eventually bowled out for 143 in 32.4 overs. The bowling unit shared the honours, with Shamus Robertson (2/23), Ian Robertson (2/28), Steven Baker (2/16), and Robbie Hayes (2/10) all striking at key moments. Shane Davis (1/30) also chipped in, while sharp fielding, including two run outs, ensured the pressure stayed on throughout the innings.
It was a complete team effort — dominant batting, disciplined bowling, and committed fielding — that secured Broadbeach Robina the Over 40s Division 1 Premiership with a resounding 103-run victory.
