Over 40s Division 1 – Grand Final Recap
Broadbeach Robina were crowned Over 40s Division 1 Premiers after holding their nerve in a nail-biting 7-run victory over Tamborine Mountain in a low-scoring thriller.
Batting first, Broady ground their way to 8/124 from 40 overs. Andrew Manion (40 retired) was the anchor, providing stability through the innings, while Rick Shenton (27) and Tony Carter (23 not out)* added vital runs that ultimately proved decisive. Despite regular wickets falling, the Cats scraped together a defendable total on a tough wicket.
The bowlers then rose to the challenge, defending 124 with discipline and determination. Vince Serci (3/13 off 8 overs) was outstanding, strangling the scoring rate and taking key wickets. He was superbly supported by Mark Thornton (2/20) and Andrew Manion (2/21), while Darren Santer (2/24) kept the pressure on from the other end. Tamborine fought hard but were eventually bowled out for 117 in 39.3 overs, just short of the target.
It was a Grand Final full of tension, but Broadbeach Robina showed composure under pressure to secure a 7-run victory and another Division 1 Premiership for the Over 40s.
