Over 40s Division 1 Premiers Grand Final Recap

Broadbeach Robina’s Over 40s Division 1 side etched their name into club history in the 2009/10 season, claiming the premiership with a thrilling 10-run win over Coomera Hope Island in the Grand Final.

Batting first, the Cats posted 129 from 38.2 overs, with strong contributions from Craig Sinclair (37), Vince Serci (39) and Mark Thornton (21) setting the foundation. Though wickets fell at regular intervals, those vital partnerships gave Broadbeach a total to defend on a testing wicket.

With the ball, the Cats showed their trademark fighting spirit. Mark Thornton (4/19) was the standout, tearing through the middle order, while Robbie Hayes (2/12) and Andrew McEwan (1/9) kept the pressure on. Vince Serci (1/4 from 6 overs) was near unplayable, tying down one end with four maidens in his spell. Supported by disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, Broadbeach eventually dismissed Coomera for 119 in 38.3 overs, sealing a famous victory.

It was a classic Grand Final — tense, hard-fought and ultimately decided by grit and determination. The result crowned Broadbeach Robina as Over 40s Division 1 Premiers for the 2009/10 season, a moment still remembered proudly in club history.
