1st Grade – Kookaburra Cup Grand Final Recap
Broadbeach Robina lifted the Kookaburra Cup after edging out Mudgeeraba Nerang & Districts in a tense, low-scoring Grand Final that went right down to the wire, winning by just 2 wickets.
Mudgeeraba were bowled out for 161 in 66.3 overs, with Broady’s bowlers maintaining tight lines and patience across two days. The pressure was constant, forcing mistakes and never allowing the batting side to break free.
Chasing 162 for victory, Broadbeach Robina’s innings was a test of grit and determination. Tom Hughes (28 off 110) and Assad Vala (22 off 46) built a solid platform at the top, before Alex Smeeth (39 off 99) played a pivotal knock through the middle. With wickets falling regularly, the game was in the balance until Jack O’Keeffe (18 off 12, including two late sixes)* and Joel Kennan (0 off 10)* guided the Cats home under immense pressure, finishing at 8/164 from 71.2 overs.
It was a true Grand Final battle — attritional cricket, disciplined bowling, and patient batting — but Broadbeach Robina held their nerve to be crowned 1st Grade Kookaburra Cup Premiers.
